1. Your Right of Withdrawal
In accordance with the EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU, you have the right to withdraw from any purchase within 14 days of the date of purchase, without giving any reason. This is your statutory cooling-off period.
To exercise this right, send a clear statement of your decision to withdraw to hello@afdinstitute.com within the 14-day period. You may use any unambiguous written form (email is sufficient).
2. Digital Content and Online Courses
When you purchase digital content or an online course, you will be asked to provide explicit consent to begin accessing the content immediately and to acknowledge that doing so waives your right of withdrawal.
- Before access begins: full refund available within 14 days of purchase
- After access begins: the right of withdrawal is waived, and the purchase is non-refundable
This is in accordance with Article 16(m) of the Consumer Rights Directive, which provides that the right of withdrawal does not apply to digital content once performance has begun with the consumer's prior consent.
3. Book Purchases
3.1 Physical books (print)
Physical book purchases may be returned within 14 days of delivery, provided the book is in unused, undamaged condition with all original packaging intact.
- Return shipping costs are borne by the buyer
- The refund will be issued once we have received and inspected the returned item
3.2 Digital books (ebook)
Digital book purchases are treated as digital content. Once the ebook has been accessed or downloaded, the purchase is non-refundable, consistent with the digital content exception described in Section 2 above.
4. Certification Exams
Certification exam fees are non-refundable once the exam has been attempted. If you have purchased an exam but have not yet attempted it, you may request a refund within the standard 14-day withdrawal period.
- Exam not attempted: refundable within 14 days of purchase
- Exam attempted: non-refundable, regardless of the outcome
5. Workshops and Events
Workshop and event bookings are subject to the following cancellation terms:
- More than 7 days before the event: full refund
- 2 to 7 days before the event: 50% refund
- Less than 48 hours before the event: non-refundable
If AFD Institute cancels an event, you will receive a full refund or, at your choice, a credit towards a future event of equal value.
Substitution of attendees is permitted at any time at no additional charge — simply notify us before the event.
6. How Refunds Are Processed
To request a refund, email us at hello@afdinstitute.com with the following information:
- Your full name and email address associated with the purchase
- Order number or invoice reference
- The product or service you wish to be refunded for
- The reason for your refund request (optional, but helpful)
We will acknowledge your request within 2 business days and process the refund within 14 days of approval. Refunds are issued to the original payment method (credit card, debit card, or bank transfer via Stripe).
Please note that depending on your payment provider, the refund may take an additional 5–10 business days to appear on your statement.
7. Exceptions
We reserve the right to refuse a refund if:
- The refund request is made after the applicable time period has expired
- The product has been substantially used, consumed, or accessed (digital content)
- There is evidence of fraud, abuse, or violation of our Terms of Service
